America Just Got Its First 3-Michelin-Star Female Chef (Finally)

The Michelin Guide has finally awarded three stars to a female chef helming a US restaurant for the first time.

It's been a long time coming — but at last a woman at the helm of a US restaurant has received three stars from the Michelin Guide. For the uninitiated, that's the guide's coveted top honor, and a rare distinction.

The honor went to Dominique Crenn, a French chef, for the modernist San Francisco restaurant Atelier Crenn that she opened in 2011.

Crenn had already scooped up some of the biggest culinary prizes in the world, so speculation ran rampant that she might finally bag this high-profile one, too.

The honor also means that the San Francisco Bay Area is now the most three-star-decorated region of any metropolitan area in the world, save for Paris and Tokyo, according to The New York Times — which also notes that New York City has five.
